31 May Hey DIY’ers! Let’s Get the Party Started!
Spring in the Hamptons is the perfect time to breathe life into your landscape after the winter chill. If you’re a “Do It Yourselfer”, here are a couple of tips to help get you started:
1) Mixing in some compost or other organic matter prepares the soil nicely before planting.
2.Knowing what to plant and when is key to a thriving garden and property. Most of the East End falls within the 7a to 7b hardiness zones. Only choose plant material that will flourish within those zones.
3.May is a great time to plant perennials in the Hamptons, including beautiful options like hydrangeas, daylilies, peonies, and other native plants. The right conditions ensure their survival and growth.
4.The East End, for the most part, has sandy soil that does not retain water. Be sure to help it along with compost or other organic matter in the beds.
5.Water deeply and less frequently to encourage deep root growth and drought tolerance. If you have any questions on irrigation regulations or how to water responsibly, contact Fertilawn or call 631- 728-5815 or go to the Suffolk County Water Authority website for more tips.
6.Fertilizers are necessary to feed your lawn, plants, shrubs, and garden to flourish. When used properly and at the right time, fertilizers are safe. There are also organic options. Do you have questions on what you should use? Give us a call. 631-728-5815.
7.Mulch around your plants to suppress weeds and to help retain water moisture.
8.Proper pruning is an art. Before you take out the clippers, know that plants require different pruning techniques and timing. Do some research and make sure you are doing the right thing at the right time. This will promote healthy growth while reducing the risk of disease. Of course, we are here to help. https://fertilawnusa.com/contact-fertilawn/
