23 Aug Now Is The Time To Renovate, Replenish and Restore!
As Fall approaches, growth begins to slow down on all plant material. Now is the optimum time to plant, trim, and seed. Some of the reasons for this are that the cooler temps are less stressful for plants; compared to summer, Fall generally brings more rainfall; top growth slows down, and the plant’s energy is focused on developing root growth; there is less “weed” and other plant competition; winter dormancy provides plants the chance to adapt and prepare for the spring growing season; and lastly, the soil is still warm from the summer but moist to encourage root growth.
Why Should You Trim Trees in the Fall?
Removing dead or diseased branches allows the tree to conserve resources and focus on healthy growth. Now is a good time to improve the tree’s shape and structure. This can help prevent hazards like falling branches during winter storms. Pruning in the Fall can lead to more vigorous growth in the Spring. Trimming in the Fall causes less stress on the tree than Spring and Summer. Fall pruning will improve the shape and appearance throughout the winter. Removing branches will allow more sunlight to reach the inner parts of the tree and surrounding plants and lawns. With many leaves off the tree, identifying branches to be removed is easier. Tree removal is recommended now, especially if the tree is too close to a structure and/or you are closing the house for the winter. At Fertilawn, we take very good care of trees. Should You Over Seed Your Lawn Now?
Overseeding now is a great strategy. This time of year provides excellent conditions for optimal seed germination. Invasive weeds do not grow in the Fall, so new grass can more easily establish itself. By overseeding, the lawn will become thicker and denser. Because of more consistent rainfall, manual watering is reduced. Also, cooler temps reduce the risk of fungus, and higher heat can stress new seed growth. Doing this now will provide a healthier, thicker lawn ready for Spring, reducing the amount of lawn care and repair needed when the growing season begins. If you’ve been to the East End in the Spring, you probably know it is very busy for landscapers. Doing his type of lawn renovation now is beneficial in so many ways.
